            David A. Shabazz spent his childhood days growing up on the south side of Chicago. At the age of eleven, Shabazz moved to Ramstein, Germany with his family. After spending four years overseas his family moved to Indianapolis, Indiana where he attended and graduated from Lawrence North High School. Shabazz went on to attend Lincoln Trail College on a Baseball scholarship. After attending Lincoln Trail, Shabazz transferred to Illinois Valley Community College to study journalism and walked on to the football team. With hard work Shabazz worked his way into the starting line-up on the football team and was elected as Student Government President.  After Illinois Valley Shabazz transferred to Saint Joseph’s College and completed his Bachelor’s degree in Communication.  Shabazz is currently seeking a Master’s Degree in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University. Shabazz also plans to earn a Doctoral Degree in Education.

           

            Shabazz is the Director of Lawrence Township Schools academic reassignment center. Shabazz administers school student personnel programs and counsels and disciplines students.  Shabazz formulates student personnel policies, for example code of ethics. Shabazz plans and supervises school student activity programs. Shabazz administers individuals and group guidance sessions for personal problems. Shabazz served as the Assistant Director of Student Support Services at Ivy Tech State College where provided a vision for students to complete Ivy Tech State College with a degree. While at Ivy Tech Shabazz also served as the Director of Intramural Sports and Recreation.

           

            From 1999 – 2002, Shabazz spent time as an educator within Lawrence Township Schools. He served as Assistant Dean of Students and Mass Media teacher at Lawrence Central High School. Shabazz is also the founder of East Side Youth Football (ESYF) and the Central Indiana Bears. East Side Youth Football was established in the summer of 2000. While working with ESYF he provided leadership and acted as a role-model for at-risk youth. Shabazz served as owner and head coach with the Central Indiana Bears, which is a semi-pro football team for inner city young adults. Shabazz served as a youth contributing writer for the United Way community newsletter “Around the Corner.” Shabazz also worked for Indiana Health Choices and the Dawn Project serving as an educational and vocational mentor, developing and organizing summer camps for at-risk youth with emotional behavior problems.

           

 

            Shabazz is active in the community as a volunteer for the United Way of Central Indiana, Pop Warner Little Scholars, and Central Indiana Bears, Shabazz also served as a delegate for the Community Alliance of the Far East Side Incorporated. He is a volunteer for Little League Baseball Headquarters, Indy Youth Power, Inc., and a member of Rensselaer Boys and Girls club.

 

            While attending Saint Joseph’s College, Shabazz was a active member of the Multi-cultural Student Union and radio talk show host for the show “Problem and Solution” on 90.5 WPUM. He also took on the role as a Meteorologist for WPUM-TV, Channel 6 in Rensselaer, Indiana. Shabazz was also on an athletic scholarship while attending Saint Joseph College. Shabazz concluded his college football career led the NCAA in kickoff return yards. While attending Illinois Valley Community College, Shabazz served as President of Student Government and President of POWER (People of the World End Racism), spending much of his time speaking to various middle schools, high schools and colleges on issues concern morality and ethics.

 

            Shabazz is number eleven of twelve children. In his free time he enjoys reading, performing arts, sports, and writing his first book entitled “Taking out the Trash.” He is engaged and plans to get married in the summer of 2005.
